What girl doesn’t long for lush, full lashes? They make your eyes look bigger and brighter, so we apply all kinds of mascara and try to coax them with curlers and brushes. But if you’re looking for longer, fuller lashes, there are a lot of other things you can try, too! Here’s my list of 7 tips for long, lush lashes…

1. Use a serum

I highly recommend using a lash boosting serum, in particular, the one offered by L’Oreal, if you want longer, fuller lashes. Apply it in the morning and before bed and you’ll see results in just four weeks. I can attest that it’s not just marketing, either — I’ve been using the serum for only three weeks, and my lashes are so thick, I don’t use mascara anymore!

2. Wash off make-up each night

Mascara, shadow, and eyeliner are fine for during the day, but if you leave it on all night, not only will you stain your pillow case, you’ll also dry out and damage your lashes! Before bedtime, use a gentle wash and clear away all of the day’s make-up.

3. Don’t rub too hard

Most eye make-up will come off easily with a gentle cleanser on a soft wipe, so there’s no need to rub with too much vigor. All you’ll do is break off or pull out your lashes.

4. Use fresh product

If you tend to get attached to your eye make-up, try to remember that as it gets older and drier, it’s more likely to attract and keep bacteria. To save your lashes, and your eyes, pitch it every eight weeks and get fresh!

5. Eat well

If you eat junk food and especially if you smoke, your hair and skin will show it, and so will your lashes! Eat well, drink plenty of water, and quit smoking! As terribly unhealthy as smoking can be, lashes might be the last thing you’ll need to worry about… but add them to the list.

6. Don’t trim them

I have a friend who trims her lashes to keep them even, and she always ends up pulling a few out. First of all, I don’t want scissors that close to my eyes, and second, lashes at the outside corners of your eyes are longer for a reason. To review: okay to trim your bangs, not okay to trim your lashes!

7. Get a prescription for Latisse

If you try all of these, and your lashes are so sparse and brittle you start to suffer from dry eyes, ask your doctor for a prescription for Latisse (or something similar). It encourages lash growth, but beware. It does have side effects, like all other prescription drugs.

Tattoos… they are painful and permanent and still, everyone seems to want one. I myself have two and plan to get at least three more. But, since I went and got one in a very painful place with absolutely no warning, I thought I would look up the most painful places to get a tattoo so I could avoid making the same mistake twice…

1. Spine

Ouch and more ouch! Your spine is made up of 26 bones, 24 of them go from your neck to the base of your bum and each tattoo that you get along them will hurt. The spine is the most painful place to get a tattoo. I say just move a little to the left or right and just avoid all of the pain.

2. Hip

This is where I got my second tattoo and that’s probably the reason that I’ve waited so long to get this next one. The closer you are to touching any bone in your hip, the more pain you’re going to be in. But if you think the end result is worth it then go for it!

3. Ankle

Avoid your ankle bone at all costs! Everyone that I speak to that has a tattoo on their ankle told me to avoid that bone no matter what. Go around it, go on top of it or below it but never, ever get tattooed right on the bone of your ankle.

4. Foot

Although this isn’t the most fun place to get a tattoo as long as you avoid toes and the bones on top of your feet you’ll be alright. Just make sure to go on the side of your foot near your heel or by your arch.

5. Elbow

Your elbow is basically skin and bone. There isn’t really any cushion to keep that vibrating feeling of the needle away from your bone and so, I’m going to have to say unless you REALLY want your elbows tattooed, go for another spot.

6. Knee

The knees, just like the elbows are all skin and bone with no cushion. If you want a leg tattoo that isn’t going to hurt that badly go for the thigh where you have a little bit more fat and tissue and your bone is a little further from the surface.

7. Clavicle

The most easily broken bone in the body is also one of the most painful places to get a tattoo. The closer you get to the two bones on either side of your neck, the more pain you’re likely to be in.

Alright ladies, this is the list of the most painful places to get a tattoo. Just remember that the closer you get to bone with no fat, the more pain you’ll be in. So go for a nice forearm or thigh! And remember a tattoo is pretty permanent unless you want to spend a fortune getting it removed so be sure of what you want and where you want it! 2. Beach Day

Now for this one you actually need a little bit of experience. You or your date need to have gone sailing before and need to get your hands on a sailboat (please avoid any thievery to achieve this). Either pay the money for some big game tickets or, if you’re on a budget go to a local game at a park. This is more of a date for people that have been together a while. Grab a blanket and a book and lay out in the shade with your favorite book and your favorite guy. I love the summer, but don’t enjoy the sweating that comes along with the warmer weather. I try to avoid sweating, if at all possible. I thought I’d share my top 10 tips to staying cool during the summer, in order to give you some ideas. I hope you find at least some of them to be useful.

10. Visit a water park

Water parks can be a blast for the entire family. There’s also usually food available at these places, so that tends to take care of any lunch needs as well. If you aren’t the water slide type of person, then lounging in the wade pool or floating around on an inner tube are a couple of other options often present at most water parks. On extremely hot days, these might be a bit crowded, but they are totally worth it.

9. Turn on the sprinkler

Sprinklers are a great source of entertainment, no matter what age you are. Kids often prefer the type that are staked out on the lawn and that send a spray of water in every direction. I’ve found it refreshing to plant my lawn chair in a wading pool and hang the sprinkler from a branch overhead. This is sort of like an outdoor shower and a great way to cool down.

8. Wear light colored clothing

If you’ve ever tried to walk on black asphalt, you know how hot it gets. The dark color of the asphalt is what makes it so hot, which holds true for clothing as well. Wearing clothing that is light in color will keep you much cooler. Adding a light colored hat to your wardrobe also isn’t a bad idea for the summer months. There are many fashionable straw hats that look great with most summer outfits.

7. Avoid the hottest part of the day

Of course, the easiest way to keep cool is by staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day. I know, this is often easier said than done. If there is something that needs to be done outside, then try to wait until it is a bit cooler in the day. Early in the morning or late in the evening are going to be times when the sun isn’t quite so hot.

6. Drink plenty of water

Being well-hydrated is important during the summer. This is a natural cooling mechanism for the body. I always try to have one or two water bottles filled half-way with water in the freezer. I fill one up with water before leaving the house, so I always have ice water available. These frozen water bottles make great neck coolers too or you can roll them on the bottom of your feet when sitting outside in the shade.

5. Don’t over exert yourself outside

Summer is also the time for a lot of yard work. Doing yard work early in the morning will make it a bit easier to stand the heat, since the sun won’t be as high in the sky. If you do have to be out during the noonday sun, be sure to take frequent breaks and make sure you cool off from time to time. It is very easy to become over exerted and have a heat stroke.

4. Hang out at the pool or lake

I know not everyone has the option to lounge by a pool or hang out on the lake, but this is a great way to stay cool. Both of these places enable you to enjoy some cool water and relax in the sun as well. Be careful to stay covered in the sunblock though. The reflection off the water will cause you to burn twice as fast as simply standing out in the yard.

3. Eat some ice cream or sorbet

Cooling off your insides will make you feel cooler all over. I like taking the kids out for ice cream at the end of a hot day. We sit in the shade and enjoy our cones to the fullest. If you aren’t a big fan of dairy, then sorbet might be your thing. This consists of fruit that has been pureed and frozen. Yum! For busy kids, I find that the frozen juice in those long, thin plastic wrappers work best. They can head out doors with one of these in hand and not worry about it dripping down their arm.

2. Read a book in front of the fan

Sometimes the only option for keeping cool is with an oscillating or box fan. Thankfully, these are relatively cheap nowadays. Sitting still for a bit in front of one of the fan might be just what is needed to cool down. I usually read a book or magazine, so that I don’t have the heat from the television radiating towards me as well.

1. Take a cool shower

When all else fails, there’s always the option of taking a cool shower. You can even lounge in a tub full of cold water if you don’t enjoy showers. It’s similar to sitting in the wading pool in the yard, but there are no bugs or neighbors to worry about. At least with a cool bath, you can pour in some bubbles to make it a bit more exciting if you want!
